Awards Day 2009

Celebrating UK Students' Achievements

On Tuesday 5th May, the Assembly Rooms in Derby was the venue for the 2009 UK National Awards (the Panasonic KWN UK ‘Oscars’). Over two hundred students and teachers from Dumfries to Kent traveled to the Midlands to share their video reports, celebrate their achievements and compete for six major awards:

The awards day proved to be a very successful getting-together of nearly all of our participating schools.

We had a very lively day. A student band from Old Swinford Hospital opened our ceremony with verve and style and punctuated later points in the day with a great indie-rock sound. Everyone present watched all 22 entries in 2 sittings (morning and afternoon). Students also had a creative session before lunch when they variously made posters for KWN and wire sculptures. Teachers had the opportunity to give valuable feedback which is always very much appreciated.

The afternoon was obviously building up towards the big awards presentation, eagerly anticipated by all. We were very lucky to have the presence of not one but two VIPs from Panasonic UK in the form of Keith Evans, Managing Director and John Dixon, Head of Brand Communications. Just before the awards we all viewed a video (created independently of the main competition) by The Hollies School for children with special needs in Cardiff. This video was really very well produced and was extremely well received by all.

The awards categories this year and winning schools are as follows:
